LapLink Phones Home

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, November 5, 2002

LapLink phones home. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. You have so many documents stored on that office PC... .and another set, more than likely on your computer at home. But what can you do if you happen to be home when you need that document that's on your office PC. LapLink... a software company that's been around for a remarkable 20 years... has developed a new subscription based solution it calls LapLink Everywhere. CEO Mark Eppley...

"What this service is, is it allows you to access all of your information, whether it's at home or in the office from any browser enabled device. All devices, whether it's a cell phone with a little mini browser, a Handspring Treo, a desktop, a notebook, your friend's computer. You have access back to up to three different computers."

For a subscription fee of 89 dollars a year. Eppley says 128 bit encryption makes the connection secure.

"It is the most compelling value we have ever offered in a single product in our 20 year history."

But LapLink does have competition. GoToMyPC, for about ten dollars a month allows users to remotely control home or office computers from any PC or Mac browser. And some corporations allow employees access to their Outlook data via the Web...

"We give you access to all your information and we work on all devices."

You can try the technology for free for 15 days... at LapLink.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
