New Migration Tool for "Switchers:

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, November 6, 2002

A tool for migrating from PCs to Macs. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Apple Computer has put a lot of money behind its "Switcher" campaign. But moving data over from one platform to the other... isn't always so simple. Detto Technologies, which has had a product called IntelliMover on the market to ease the migration from old PCs to new ones, was asked by Apple to help out. The result... a new software package called Move2Mac...

"What it does, specifically is to move files and folders... things like your music, your photos, your data files, your word documents over from the PC to the Mac. And we do it via a USB cable."

Detto VP Frank Coyle. The software sells for 60 dollars... but it's the kind of thing Apple should probably be giving away to buyers who are switching. At Apple, senior retail marketing director Allen Olivo says despite disappointing overall sales of iMacs... the company still has faith in its switcher campaign and retail store strategy...

"About half the customers in the store are on Mac about half are brand new to Macintosh. And about four out of ten of our buyers are new to Macintosh. So we absolutely are reaching that new to Mac audience. With iPod, we've had a great success both on Macintosh and on Windows."

iPod is Apple's sleekly designed digital music player that is breaking new ground for the company. It is moving into retail chains like Target... .and even Apple rival Dell has begun to sell the Windows version online. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
