Hollywood Help for Home Videos

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, December 17, 2002

Hollywood help for those home videos. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. There is plenty of software around that can help you create pretty good productions from your home videos using your PC. Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment has added more fun to the process with its Screenblast Movie Studio. Senior VP Andrew Schneider...

"Screenblast uses and leverages our studio heritage and the Sony brand leadership to add Hollywood magic and know-how to our software."

What Sony is offering on the video side is the ability to add clips from its film library to your own videos... along with sound effects and music...

"We also teach you how to score your own movie for instance, make your own music video or take a cue from Hollywood by adding western special effects or speeding it up for action sequences and really de-mystifying how to get your movie to look like the professionals."

Use a clip from The Natural in your home little league video. Like anything else, there is a learning curve... but the results are worthwhile. And once you're done...

"Well once you've created your movie or music you can utilize the one click publishing feature within the software interface to upload it to Screenblast."

Users get 50 megabytes of storage for the files which are compressed in either Real or the Windows Media format. It may not be a replacement for more full featured video editing software designed for DVD burning... but the added clips and effects make Screenblast fun. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
