HP's Big Product Rollout

Boot Camp feature for Monday, August 11, 2003

New products and new strategy from Hewlett Packard. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. HP, the world's second largest maker of personal computers, says it is coming out with about a hundred new products... .

"This is the largest consumer launch we've ever had and it will really focus on making it easier to bring digital photos, music and video to life."

HP's VP for worldwide sales and marketing Chris Morgan. The new PCs, printers and digital cameras are being designed to look good together... .and says Morgan... work well together...

"What we've seen is customers really are excited about consumer technology, but they want it to be a lot easier and they want the end result to be a lot more rewarding. They want a great picture at the end of that digital photography experience but they don't want to go through a lot of complexity to get to it. So what's really behind a lot of these new products and solutions is a tremendous focus on simplifying the process of getting to that great end result. Digital photography is an area that a lot of the products are really aimed at."

It's a similar approach that has been taken before by rivals Sony and Apple. HP's advantage is it manufacturers its own printers, cameras and PCs. The company will also sell an easy to plug in DVD burner... that can connect directly to VCRs and camcorders. HP hopes the strategy... along with the improving economy... will translate to higher sales in the months ahead. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
