Sony Emphasizes Style Again

Boot Camp feature for Friday, October 24, 2003

Sony emphasizes style again. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. When it comes to companies that make computers that don't deserve to be hidden under desks... .there are basically two. Apple and Sony. Sony's latest work of computer art is a sleek, black all in one Vaio PC with a wireless keyboard and mouse... the V100G. Vaio group general manager Mike Abary... .

"We wanted to make the form factor a little bit more slim, to make the model more personal, so to speak, in terms of its utilization and functionality. And I think we were able to achieve that. It is a very thin design, it's a very nice looking, elegantly designed product."

The new Vaio doubles at an LCD TV... that can record shows using Sony's Giga Pocket software. The company opted not to go with Microsoft's Media Center PC system... even though it is being introduced elsewhere in the Vaio line. The 80 gigabyte hard drive and 2.4 GHz processor seem weak for the 16 hundred dollar price tag. About the potential buyers... Abary says...

"We think that perhaps a dorm room would be a very nice environment for this type of product. And we're also very excited about the prospect of being able to utilize this PC in a more commercial environment. For instance, hotel reception areas where an element of style is emphasized."

Or... Sony hopes... in other office settings where space in an issue. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
