Connecting to Your PC From Anywhere

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, June 29, 2004

Connecting to your PC from anywhere. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's a software category that's been around for a long time. Programs that let you control or link to a computer at your home or office….from another location. Over the last year or so a service called GoToMyPC has won some fans…allowing them to access computers through a small Web based client. It was purchased not long ago by Citrix Systems. Now there's some new competition from a program called LogMeIn…from 3AM Labs. CEO Michael Simon…

"Basically everyone understands if I can save one trip, whether I forgot a document or my computer isn't working…I save an IT manager a trip out to a remote location, that's going to pay for that product. The return on investment is clear to understand. But the real issue is how do you take advantage of that opportunity at the same time maintaining security. And what LogMeIn does is it has a whole series of security features really geared for the corporate IT management team so that they can let their users take advantage of this kind of technology."

3AM Labs has made the software simple enough for home users to set up as well…even through firewalls. And you can use PocketPC handheld devices for remote access as well…

"Once you subscribe to LogMeIn everything else is really taken care of. You can access your target computer from any device."

The service costs 12.95 a month…or 99 dollars a year. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
