Logitech Looks at Wireless iPod Headphones

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, August 17, 2004

Cashing in on the iPod opportunity. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The popularity of Apple's line of digital music players has opened up the door for lots of third party peripherals. Speakers, car kits, cases…even earphones that cost more than the iPods themselves. You can find many of them listed or advertised on a third party Web site… ipodlounge.com. And there are more products on the way. Guerrino DeLuca, isa former Apple executive who is the CEO at Logitech. While the company is best known for its mice and keyboards, DeLuca tells us he is paying attention to the iPod phenomenon ….

"Well you know we are always moving beyond the PC platform. We make peripherals for video game consoles, cell phones and mobile digital music is obviously interesting. So it's not excluded that we would just get into that space…iPod, MP3 players, anything that would help you carry music will need to complimented by headsets…hopefully wireless headsets that make it more comfortable for you. So there is an opportunity for us out there." How soon can we expect to see product? "I would say within the next nine months you will see something in the space of digital music and audio for digital music from us." Wireless stereo headsets? "Hopefully."

Cutting the wires between iPods and ears. There are some technical challenges…but they are being worked on by Logitech and perhaps others. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
