Handsets are becoming more than just voice communication devices. They're becoming the mobile entertainment device that consumers are using to effectively carry with them the entertainment. And so the company is driving forward these entertainment initiatives both the video as well as, with this product…the GoForce 3D 4500, bringing 3D graphics into handsets."

In addition to turning phones into game machines that look as good or better than a Game Boy device….NVIDIA says the new chip will enable higher quality built in cameras…

"This product will do up to 3 megapixel camera capabilities. It's still up to the OEMs of whether they do ..what sensors they use and what combination of camera capabilities they put on it. But our fundamental product is capable up to 3 megapixel."

NVIDIA faces some familiar competition in the cell phone graphics chip business….from rivals ATI and Intel. Phones with the new 3D chips should become available by the middle of next year. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
