A Solar Panel on Your Back

Boot Camp feature for Friday, October 15, 2004

A solar panel on your back! Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. A company called ScotteVest…has built a business creating vests, coats, pants and jackets….designed to carry all kinds of digital paraphernalia… MP3 players, PDAs, cell phones and such. They features so many pockets, you might have trouble finding them all…and channels to thread wires through so they aren't dangling when you're wearing a cell phone headset….or listening to music. Now comes, what CEO Scott Jordan calls the Solar ScotteVest…

"It's a solar panel that attaches to any number of our products. It enables you to recharge your cell phone, PDA or any device that works through a USB charger. Within two to three hours, it fills up the battery, it's an auxiliary battery, and then you can use that battery to take the panels off if you'd like and use that battery to charge any of your devices."

It also means that you don't have to be out in the sun all of the time for your devices to work. Jordan says the system also allows travelers to leave multiple power bricks at home…

"You can toss your other power cords, whether they be cigarette chargers or what not because you can use this not only attached to your jacket, but on your dashboard or on your desk or what not."

The perfect accessory for drivers of hybrid cars. The solar panels and battery can be pre-ordered on the Scottevest.com Web site….for 225 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
