Fun With Microsoft... Games & Unauthorized Jokes

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, May 19, 1999

Having fun with Microsoft. No this isn't a Justice Department simulation game. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Microsoft has unveiled its line up of new games for this year, but before we get to that, to put you in a fun kind of mood, IT Press is out with The Totally Unauthorized Microsoft Joke Book...

"The PC industry and the software industry takes itself way to seriously."

Tim Barry put together this literary pie in the face... the first in a series...

"And we picked them for number one because they're the company people do love to hate."

You can find more on the book and a joke of the week at msjokebook.com. About the serious business of Microsoft games, VP Robbie Bach says there'll be a follow up to the popular Age of Empires...and of course a new Flight Simulator...

"In many of the games what you're finding is the ability to produce more realism. In Flight Sim 2000, the ability to fly these big planes in a very realistic environment, with awesome new scenery. We've redesigned the entire scenery engine in Flight Sim."

They're up to nearly 20 thousand airports. Baseball 2000 is new to the lineup, you can download a free trial version from microsoft.com/games. It will also be coming out with NFL 2000. And Microsoft is now out front in computer golf....having acquired Access Software, makers of the most popular Links LS.
