Holiday Photo DVD Slide Shows

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, December 30, 2004

DVD slide shows from your holiday photos. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Many new computers are equipped with drives that can burn DVDs…but if yours doesn't have one, adding a drive isn't that difficult or that expensive. At Pioneer, which makes both internal and external DVD burners… Sandra Benedetto says one of the best and easiest things you can do with the technology…is create a digital slide show…

"Whether they're digital photographs created with a digital camera or scanning in photographs that are analog photos that have been made years ago on a regular analog camera…bring them into your computer and with some very simple software tools and our DVD writer, make a DVD slide show with music and transitions and so forth. Now you can send baby's first footsteps grandma, who can play it on the DVD player in her living room."

There are a number of software packages that make slide show creation simple. Pioneer drives include Ulead's Movie Factory…

"It's a very simple piece of software that allows you to create your own DVDs or even data DVDs or motion DVDs or DVD slideshows."

An internal drive sells for under a hundred dollars. External drives that can work with desktop or notebook PCs are about twice the price. In the coming year, DVD burners will start to arrive with much higher capacity…designed for high definition video. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
