Useful Sites... iPrint & SixDegrees

Boot Camp feature for Friday, May 21, 1999

Here we go again, sifting through the junk on the web, to bring you sites that are useful. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Where ever you go, whatever you do, you've got to have a business card. You can print your own using a software package and your PC, or for a real professional look you can turn to a web site called iprint.com. It's pretty slick. Using the online tools you design and create...says iPrint founder Royal Farros...

"When you're creating something you see exactly what you're creating, real time, right on screen. So, because you can see it, you essentially eliminate guess work. You're much happier with the results." What about the price? "Because we're also automated, we cut out anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of the pre-press costs."

Now you need people to give those cards to. That where a site called sixdegrees.com comes in...

"It's taken from the theory, six degrees of separation, where everybody is connected to everyone. And we allow people to index their relationships in a contact manager at the site. And you can come to sixdegrees and identify your relationships to any one of our 2.3 million members."

It's free to use...says CEO Andrew Weinreich. But keep in mind, you'll only get out of it, what you put in...

"Once your rolodex is online, you can connect to the people you don't know, through the people you do know."

You've got to be connected. The site again is sixdegrees.com.
