Kodak EasyShare One

Boot Camp feature for Friday, January 21, 2005

Some big new features…in a little digital camera. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Kodak has had its EasyShare digital camera system and software on the market for years. So it's kind of baffling why the latest camera is called the EasyShare One. But name aside….the camera has some pretty compelling new features. Kodak CEO Daniel Carp…

"This is the next big innovation from Kodak in the digital camera world. And this camera has not only wireless capability, but this camera allows you to keep 15 hundred of your pictures in the camera so you can share them. So if you go to a party or want to show your grandkids around, through a very interesting albuming process, you can keep up to 15 hundred pictures in say, any number of albums and find those pictures and use this as a sharing device." So a lot of built in memory, what's the wireless for? "The wireless for the up and coming wireless world."

For the record…the wireless capability…is optional. The 600 dollar price is high for a four megapixel camera. Kodak has moved up to the number two position in digital camera sales in the U.S. behind Sony…and says Carp…

"Obviously, we're striving to be number one, that's why we're innovating with new products like the EasyShare One. We have long said, we want to be in the top three."

And Carp says this will be the year when 50 percent of Kodak's overall business becomes digital. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin
