Confusing Your Wrist With Your Palm

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, March 9, 2005

Confusing your wrist with your Palm. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's an 8 megabyte Palm based PDA…..built into a watch. It's an amazing little piece of technology created by Fossil. A full fledged PDA running Palm OS 4.1…in a watch…complete with USB and IR ports, a stylus built into the wrist band buckle and a touch screen watch face. Fossil's director of technology watch products Frank Romero…

"It has a 160 by 160 pixel resolution display. And you can use the on screen inking technology, the touch screen to actually perform natural handwriting recognition input on the device."

It may surpass the MSN Direct WristNet watches, which Fossil also sells, as the ultimate geek watch. But there are a couple of things to keep in mind. It is not quite as simple to use as other Palm OS devices simply because of its shrunken size. And your eyesight had better be keen to be able to read the text on the display. About battery life, Romero says…

"It has a rechargeable battery, lasts about three or four days on a charge depending on usage. What you see here, in essence, is a really stylish watch, but it has additional functionality in the sense that it can do everything that a Palm OS watch can do."

The Fossil version sells for about 250 dollars. An Abacus branded version is fifty dollars less. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
