Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, June 1, 2005

Can Nintendo keep up with Microsoft and Sony? Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Nintendo has been on top in the handheld video game business for years with the Game Boy and its successors. But when it comes to consoles… its Game Cube has trailed both Sony's Playstation2 and Microsoft Xbox in sales. But company president Satoru Iwata tells us…Nintendo hopes to gain ground with its next generation console, code named revolution, when it arrives next year. Iwata, speaking through a translator, tells us…

"Well I believe Nintendo is taking a pretty much different approach from the other two companies. The other two companies believe in the concept that what worked in the past 20 years must be working in the next generation console. On the other hand, Nintendo believes that has already reached the point where there shall be no more improvements in terms of the increased gaming popularity. So while the other companies intend on beefing up on their horsepower on their machines. Nintendo is really committed itself to increase its gaming power."

While Nintendo is keeping most of the details of its Revolution console under wraps for now, Iwata says it will give consumers new ways to play games. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
