The Swiss Army Knife of Headphones

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, June 9, 2005

The Swiss Army Knife of headphones. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It looks like an ordinary lightweight pair of headphones…but the new iZon BT205 has multiple personalities. It has a built in MP3 player with an SD memory card slot that can hold up to a gigabyte of music. There's a built in FM radio. It is also a Bluetooth headset for Bluetooth enabled cell phones. And you can listen to streaming music wirelessly…from Bluetooth enabled PCs as well. The device is made by Global American Technologies, where product manager Gregory Basralian says…if you're listening to music when your cell phone rings…

"It will automatically pause the music and switch over to the phone function. With the press of a button, you can answer the call. You can end the call when you're finished. You can also initiate a call if your phone is compatible and has voice dial, you press the button, it will activiate the voice dial, you say the name and you just start talking."

There's an LCD display on the side of one earpiece and a rechargeable eight hour battery. Do you really want to wear headphones all day?

"It's very comfortable. It just goes behind your head. It is light and it is something that you can wear all day."

The iZon BT205 sells for about 200 dollars…and is available at Geeks.com. Look for more MP3 players to use Bluetooth wireless technology in the months to come. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
