New Security Suite From Zone Labs

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, July 21, 2005

A new security suite from Zone Labs. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Zone Labs, which was acquired last year by Check Point Software, is best know for Zone Alarm…which has made free firewall security available for years. Now it's out with an update to the Zone Alarm Security Suite…which adds a variety of applications to the firewall. Zone Labs founder Gregor Freund…

"It protects your applications and it also lets you know which applications are trying to access the Internet. It has a comprehensive anti-spyware and anti-virus components. In addition it has privacy components, protect you from tracking cookies, things like that, parental control."

The suite includes anti-spam and anti-phishing components as well. The price, about 70 dollars a year. Zone Labs faces stiff competition from the likes of Symantec and McAfee. Freund maintains…

"In a lot of the competitor's suites, there might be one or two really good components and the rest is average or below average. One of the things that we try very hard, is that each component is actually the best component in the industry and if we don't build it in house, we actually license it and then do the integration."

One key advantage to the suite…is it does not hog system resources….so you can add security without noticeably slowing your computer down. You can find a trial version at zonelabs.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
