Get Together With Gooey

Boot Camp feature for Monday, June 14, 1999

Feel all alone when you're surfing the web? Maybe it's time to get Gooey. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Gooey may sound goofy, but it's the name of a new piece of software that could change the whole web surfing experience. It lets users meet and chat with each other anywhere on the web. It was developed by Israeli based Hypernix, where co-CEO Shai Adler says..

"We feel that Gooey is revolutionizing the surfing experience. Because instead of going to a web site alone and trying to experience the web experience alone, you do it with other people who share the same interests. So if you are entering a diving web site, it means that you are a diving fan and everybody else over there are diving fans and immediately you find new friends who share the same interest and you can get from them very useful information."

Chat with other Gooey users on travel sites, finance or in online stores. The software can show you sites where you can find other Gooey users. Nicknames, like the ones in AOL's buddy lists, pop up on the screen when a user is on the same web site you are....

"Gooey also creates what we call a new category, Dynamic Roving Community, DRC."

That lets a group of Gooey users with a common interest surf through web sites together. You can download the free software for Windows at getgooey.com. A Mac version should be out in a few months.
