Going Ape for Video Games

Boot Camp feature for Monday, December 5, 2005

Going ape for video games. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. When it comes to developing new games for Microsoft's Xbox 360, Ubisoft placed its bet on one title….Peter Jackson's King Kong. The Oscar winning director gets top billing over the gorilla…in the new game….based on the soon to be released movie. Ubisoft brand director Karen Conroe…

"Peter Jackson was very much involved in the creation of the game. He worked very closely with our development studio, helping our development team understand his vision for the film. He shared assets with us from the film, art assets. And he was very involved in every aspect of the game play. From the design through to even some of the play testing to make sure that the game and even the feeling that we were giving the player was what he was looking for."

The game features key members of the movie cast….including Jack Black, Naomi Watts and Adrian Brody. You have the choice of playing the game from the perspective of a human….or as King Kong. And while it's available on just about every game platform, from consoles to handhelds to PCs…sorry, no Mac version….the high definition capabilities of the Xbox 360 make that version stand out…

"We really took advantage of the graphics power of that machine. So Kong's fur looks different on the Xbox 360 version than it does on the Xbox or the PS2."

Keep in mind the price for the 360 version is higher too, about sixty dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
