Bluetooth Gets Stylish

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, December 14, 2005

Bluetooth gets stylish. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. More and more cell phones being sold these days are equipped with Bluetooth technology. That means they can be used with wireless headsets….while the phone remains clipped to a belt or inside a purse….or they can communicate through Bluetooth enabled car audio systems. At headset maker Jabra, Kathy Oberli says…

"In 2004, we were looking at about ten percent of handsets were Bluetooth. Going to 2006, going to about 30 to 40 percent. And by 2009, we're looking at about 80 percent of the handsets will be Bluetooth."

If you know someone with a Bluetooth phone who doesn't have a headset already, or has an older model, a new headset can make a great holiday gift. They've gotten smaller and lighter and many models are fine being charged up once a week or so, depending upon how much talking you do. Jabra will soon be coming out with JX 10….which weighs less than a third of an ounce…important if you're wearing it all day. The Jacob Jensen design is the big attraction…and…

"It has included in it the DSP, digital signal processing, which will enhance your noise cancellation from any background noises. It also has automatic volume adjustment."

You can find it online for about 120 dollars. Jabra has plenty of competition from Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Logitech and others….with many models much more affordable than they were a year or two ago. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
