Belkin CEO on Staying Ahead of Tech Trends

Boot Camp feature for Monday, February 13, 2006

What's the next hot technology? Belkin tries to stay ahead of the game. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Belkin is a twenty five year old private company….that has made a business out of being first to market with add-ons for the latest technology. CEO and Founder Chet Pipkin says for example…

"Certainly the Apple iPod would be a very, very good choice. We worked very closely with Apple, with their design teams and ours. Cross utilizing IT from both organizations allowing a whole portfolio of accessories and add on products to be brought to the market just as Apple was releasing their new product line." How many different products do you have roughly, that work in some way with the iPod? "We're probably, on a global basis, in the hundred to two hundred product range." And your competitors out there have thousands, no doubt. How do you set your stuff apart from everybody else who has jumped on the iPod bandwagon? "We have an entire team that really understands the consumer lifestyle and how folks are using these products. And then we work very closely with them, very closely with the OEMs, whether that's Apple in this instance or XM for the satellite radio…and we work hand in hand with them to design solutions that really enhance that experience."

The latest frontier for Belkin… AV cables and other equipment for home theatres. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
