A Logical Choice for Lefties

Techstination feature for Friday, March 24, 2006

A logical choice for lefties. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The lefties of the world aren't exactly used to be catered to. When it comes to using a mouse with a PC….you can find models for lefties but they are few and far between. It's safe to say most southpaws simply become accustomed to using a mouse designed for the right hand. Logitech is hoping to make lefthanders happy….with the new MX610…

"About 10 percent of the people in the world are left handed. Many of them, some of the famous people like DaVinci, like Mahatma Gandhi, Aristotle, five U.S. presidents, a lot of left handed people. And most importantly, many of our users today are left handed and have been requesting us for this mouse."

Logitech VP Ashish Arora. The MX610 is a laser cordless mouse….designed and shaped for the left hand. And…

"We call it a smart mouse because it communicates with the PC in a two way directional mode. We have email and IM buttons that light up if you get email from some specific person that you select."

There are buttons on the mouse to control music volume on the PC as well. The MX610 has a list price of about sixty dollars. There is some competition…but typically that comes from plain vanilla mice…that aren't ergonomically shaped for either hand. Software lets you switch the button functions. The designers at Logitech know they have at least one happy customer for the MX610. That would be lefty CEO Guerrino DeLuca. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
