Color Laser Printers Priced for the Home Office

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, June 6, 2006

Color laser printers…priced for the home office. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. If you haven't looked lately…you may be surprised at how affordable color laser printers have become for the home office. Why look at a laser printer instead of an inkjet? The answer is …the cost per print. Dell is out with new models including the 3010 cn…..priced as low as 320 dollars. Marketing director Lisa Howe….

"We hear from our customers, that many more people, especially in the United States, are buying multiple printers. So you'll have for example, an inkjet for your photo. You'll have a laser for more productivity needs. Like if you've got students printing out reports or small businesses inside a house… or just people who print a lot of MapQuest or Internet pages will like to have a laser because it's faster and you don't need that photo quality piece. For consumers who are looking for that photo piece, they often like to have a photo printer that does great photo quality, which we have several of those as well."

Dell, of course, faces competition. The world's biggest printer maker, Hewlett Packard…has a low end color laser model for under three hundred dollars. Samsung has a model in the same ballpark. Howe says consumers are starting to take notice…

"The overall mono laser market is relatively flat. It's growing a little bit. Color laser is growing very fast. Multi function printers, having a scanner copier functionality, is growing very fast."

The more printing you do…especially of text…the more it makes sense. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
