Orb Networks Adds MyCasting

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, October 31, 2006

A Swiss army knife for sharing digital video, photos, music and more. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Orb Networks is out with the next generation of its free software. Initially, the novelty was you could access content on your media center PC….even watch live TV…from any other Web browser. These days, Orb works with just about any Windows PC with a high speed Internet connection….and now it has introduced what it calls MyCasting. Company chairman Joe Costello…

"What MyCast helps you do, this new power that we're giving you, is you can build your own channels. When we say build your own channels, be your own network with it. You can take all your digital media and very simply and easily put it together into channels whether they're audio channels, you're building your own radio stations or video channels and you're essentially becoming your own TV station. It makes it much easier to collect, organize and enjoy the content that you have put together."

Orb allows you to share your home videos and photos for instance with friends and family members without having to go through an outside sharing service. And MyCast allows those people who have been invited….to stream your content as well. And it can be viewed from any Web browser…including those on some cell phones …

"The beauty is you've got complete hardware freedom. Again, the key is you don't have to download any application on the receiving machine."

Costello says Orb hopes to add Mac compatibility as well. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
