Another New Game Console? The Game Wave

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, December 5, 2006

Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft don't have the only game consoles in town. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's not exactly a traditional video game machine.....but it is fun. Zapit's Game Wave is a DVD player....that ships with four remote controls...and can use as many as six....to play trivia games....black jack....and more. Zapit VP Jeff Hurst...

"Everybody gets their own color coded remote and the neat thing about that is, while they're playing, it's simultaneous play. So everybody has their own remote. Nobody is waiting for a turn and it's a real, real unique way to play a game...really bringing the family together. Family being ten, eleven years old right up to grandparents in their sixties and seventies by just getting everyone just getting a real easy to use remote control."

Players use what look like TV remotes to buzz in....in the style of TV gameshows. Thankfully, with four remotes, batteries are included. The Game Wave system sells for about a hundred dollars and includes the 4 Degrees trivia game. About eight titles are available in all....and Zapit promises more are on the way.

"Our price point is the 99 dollar retail and the games are 19.99. And the other thing too, it's also a DVD player. So it's a full functioning DVD player that can be used as a full family entertainment system. But again, for a hundred dollars, it's a very reasonable price and it's a great way to bring your family together."

A goal that Nintendo is shooting for as well with its Wii console. You can find more information at Zapitgames.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
