Cell Phones and Fashion

Boot Camp feature for Friday, December 22, 2006

Cell phones and fashion. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Cell phone makers have become locked in what could almost be called fashion war. Like fashion models…. handsets have become ever slimmer. It started with Motorola's Razr…..the Slvr and Q phones….now Samsung has the skinny BlackJack and the T509. But cool design doesn't have to be skinny. Verizon Wireless is now selling a phone LG calls EnV. Verizon's Brenda Raney…

"It's two phones in one. If you hold the phone vertically, it looks like a wireless phone, the candy bar style phone. If you open the phone, like a little mini laptop, you see a full keyboard, so if you want to text message, you have a full keyboard to text message. You also have a screen and on the side of the screen are two tiny speakers, so you get full volume from your V-Cast music."

Or you can listen to music through a Bluetooth stereo headset. MP3s can be stored on MicroSD memory cards. The EnV includes an improved digital camera…

"The camera included on the EnV is a 2.0 megapixel autofocus camera with flash and camcorder. Many wireless phones have a 1.3 megapixel camera."

The price, with a contract is about 150 dollars. The EnV, by the way is two tenths of an inch slimmer than its predecessor. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
