More New Notebooks Arrive

Boot Camp feature for Monday, July 16, 2007

More new notebooks arrive…ahead of the back to school buying season. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. On the heels of Dell's announcement of new notebook PCs in a variety of colors last month….Gateway is introducing new models…that also pay much more attention to design than laptops of old. John Schindler is Gateway's senior director of consumer product management…

"Well today in the retail market, people are going in there and saying I want something that I want to be associated with. It's about performance, but it's also about, does the look of the product kind of meet my requirements too. Because there's a lot of innovation that's going on in the notebook space and you can really change the industrial design in terms of how it appears on the shelf and what consumers see. First and foremost, they want something that's easy to use. They want something that meets their price range. And they want something that they're proud of."

Among the new performance features….

"You can configure this with HDMI. And a lot of notebooks out there are analog only. This will be digital ready. It'll have an option, using Santa Rosa, to use Intel graphics or a new chipset coming out from ATI called XD2400."

Optional HD DVD drives are available as well. Gateway is hoping the new designs and features will help it keep pace or gain on some tough competitors…including Hewlett Packard and Dell. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
