Sleek, Stylish Gateway One

Boot Camp feature for Monday, October 8, 2007

A sleek, stylish, all in one PC….and it's not from Apple. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Apple has the recently updated iMac line of all in one computers. Mac fans aren't likely to be swayed, but Gateway may have out designed Apple with the One. Senior VP Gary Elsasser…

"It's a 19 inch wide LCD PC. It's 3.6 inches deep, so you can put it absolutely anywhere in really shallow spaces. Full performance, though. So it's got dual core capability. You can put two terabytes of desktop hard drive space inside this platform. The whole unit is actually designed to be beautiful and actually become part of the living room, just basically an art piece. So the whole front is black glass. And that whole front actually is the speaker of the computer as well. So when you turn it on, out of no where, you get great sound, and it's actually the whole front surface of the machine. And then the whole back is made out of pulled aluminum, a real piece of aluminum that caps off this stunning box. All of the peripherals are wireless, the keyboard, the mouse, the remote control."

A single wire connects the computer to a power block on the floor which includes a USB hub for other peripherals. Gateway, which is in the process of being acquired by Acer, is selling the high end 18 hundred dollar model and the low end machine at 13 hundred, exclusively at Best Buy. A 15 hundred dollar configuration can be purchased through Gateway online. The models do not include a TV tuner…which can be purchased as an external add-on. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
