Is This the Year You Get Published? Help on the Web

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, January 2, 2008

Is this the year you finally get published? On the Internet, anyone can. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Whether you've been writing the great American novel….or a personalized children's book….or maybe hankering to put together your own coffee table book of your photos….the Internet makes it easy. A variety of Web sites will let you self publish. A site called LuLu.com will let you publish and even sell your creations. How does it compete with giants like Kodak when it comes to creating photo books? Lulu's Gail Jordan…

"Our quality is exceptional. In the Lulu Studio, for example, if you were to create a photo book and pretty soon you'll be able to create calendars as well, we have excellent quality. We also have the opportunity for users to garner images. We have a deal with Getty Images for example and Collegiate Images, where if, for example, you didn't have quite enough photos to make your collection as wonderful as you wanted it to, you could enhance your project by buying for a very low price, about 30 cents an image, images from Getty. A vast library of images that they have. Collegiate Images has college sports images. So let's say you took your family to your alma mater, to a football game, and you wanted to remember that, you could create a photo book and you could capture images from the school."

There's plenty of competition…but Lulu.com does make the process simple. The price for a 20 page hardcover photo book…is about 25 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
