Combination Cordless Phone System/Digital Frame

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, January 10, 2008

A cordless phone system…with a built in digital photo frame. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Thomson's GE brand has announced several new cordless phones that incorporate new features to attract consumer interest. Among them, says marketing communications director Doug DeLor, is the GE Photo Phone….

"It is a wireless phone as well as a wireless digital picture frame. It pairs up to your caller ID. So not only is it a digital picture frame that flashes through a slide show like normal ones…when you have an incoming call, you can pair your mom's, or your brother's, or your sister's photo with their phone number. And their picture shows up along with their name and number and when you answer the phone, the caller ID portion disappears, and when you conclude the call, the picture disappears and it goes back to a slide show."

The unit has a 7 inch LCD screen and memory card slots for storing images. The suggested retail price is about a hundred forty dollars. The system uses what is called the DECT 6.0 technology to avoid interference. That technology is also being used in the GE Cell Fusion series of phones…

"If you have a Bluetooth cell phone, you push one button on your home phone base and it automatically pairs that Bluetooth phone to the phone system. And what it allows you to do Fred, is when your cell phone has an incoming call, it then wirelessly rings throughout all the handsets within your house and you can answer the phone from the comfort of a handset."

A no jack model….designed for using only your mobile service…arrives this spring for about 80 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
