WildCharge Aims to Eliminate Charger Tangle

Boot Camp feature for Friday, February 22, 2008

Getting rid of that tangle of charging devices. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's been a problem in search of a solution. All of those electronic devices …that need to be charged ….and where to plug them all in. One new solution, that resembles a mousepad, comes from a company called WildCharge. Company president Izhar Matzkevich…

"This is the WildCharger pad. Once you enable a device with our technology, and you place it on a WildCharger pad, it will receive power as if it's plugged directly to the wall. So you have one pad, with one wire, that can charge multiple devices. The WildCharger pad delivers up to 15 watts of power, which is enough to charge and power three to five small devices."

The company is working on a model that can power notebook computers as well. The price…about sixty dollars for the pad….and 35 dollars for adaptors. One drawback…the limited number of devices it works with so far… RAZR phones…and the company says… soon…the iPhone, iPod Touch and some BlackBerry phones. They'll work by using covers that contain contacts….that allow the charging when the devices are place on the WildCharger pad. The company's hopes…are for the technology to become pervasive…

"A WildCharge pad built into a car dashboard. Planes, trains, automobiles. Everywhere you go …we'd like you to find a WildCharge pad."

With the connectors being built into electronic devices. That, at least, is the hope. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
