Lenovo's Answer to Apple

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Lenovo's answer to Apple. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. There's little dispute that Apple's MacBook Air is the sexiest looking ultra-light computer you can buy. But when it comes to usability...Lenovo may have the edge with its new Thinkpad X300. While it is not quite as thin as Apple's Air.... It includes three USB ports instead of one, the option for an internal DVD burner...a user replaceable battery...and the option for either Verizon or AT&T wireless connectivity. And the package comes in at under three pounds. Thinkpad marketing director Tom Ribble ..

"It is truly a lot of great engineering. It'll be positioned for very mobile users who value the latest technologies. It is a platform of innovation. There is a lot of new technology on this offering, including LED backlights, solid state drives, even GPS is available on select models. And not only is it thin and light, but it has a lot of great battery life. So we're able to get up to ten hours of battery life on the offering."

With extended life batteries. The X300 uses a solid state 64 gigabyte drive for storage...instead of a traditional hard drive. While the X300 is ultra thin and light....when it comes to the price... not so much. It starts at about 26 hundred dollars....and goes up from there. Pricing for Apple's MacBook Air, by the way, starts at about 18 hundred dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
