A flat economy affects those flat screen purchases. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With consumers having to pay more for gasoline, utilities and food….and tighter credit….plans to buy big, flat screen, high definition TVs…are being scaled back in many cases. That's the assessment of Rey Roque, marketing VP at Westinghouse Digital. The company is introducing smaller screen sizes… to give consumers more lower cost options such as 32 inch screens instead of 42 inches or above. What they are looking for are bargains…

"The keyword more for us is value, being able to see fully featured sets really at price points where you don't need to look further. Given the gas prices, given the food prices. We anticipate some kind of cocooning effect too where perhaps you're not going to travel so far in your vacation, maybe stick closer to home, and have that kind of investment in something that's going to last a long time and being able to enjoy that today."

Even the newest 42 inch model…1080P LCD….will sell…in many cases…for under a thousand dollars. Other types of flat screens are also bargains. Roque says digital photo frames, hot items this time of year for dads and grads, are continuing to fall in price. A 7 inch frame from Westinghouse is priced at under a hundred dollars.
