Trying on Clothes....on Your PC?

Boot Camp feature for Monday, September 27, 1999

Hold on to your credit cards, now you can try on clothes on your computer screen. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Try on clothes on your computer? You've got to be kidding. Broderbund, which has had a big hit with Cosmopolitan Virtual Makeover, a program that lets you try on new hair styles and such, is coming out with Cosmopolitan Fashion Makeover...

"Where Virtual Makeover lets you scan in a picture of your face and play with your hair and makeup and experiment with beauty, Fashion Makeover allows you to build a virtual model of yourself and then experiment with fashions."

Broderbund's Dawn Dzedzy. The deluxe fifty dollar version allows you to build a virtual you, complete with your own face and an onscreen body shaped to the proportions you enter...

"And since it's going to ask you for your measurements, we've added a password protection feature so if you're shy about giving that kind of information out, you don't have to worry. Nobody has to know but you."

Once you do that, you can click and drag all kinds of fashions onto your virtual body.

"You can try thousands of combinations on your model. We have shirts, sweaters, jackets, pants, skirts, shoes, accessories."

Zoom in for a closer look. Like it? Buy it. The program will link you to Macys on the Internet to make your purchase.

"We're also going to offer seasonal downloads because fashion changes very quickly."

There's fashion advice as well.
