Life Saving Technology for Cars

Boot Camp feature for Friday, August 15, 2008

Lifesaving technology for cars...made affordable. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The stories are heartbreaking....and happen all too frequently. Young children who are killed or injured...often by family members...backing up in their own driveways. They can be difficult to see in the rearview mirror of a regular car....and impossible in a mini-van or and SUV. One solution...being made more affordable by Audiovox....is a back-up camera system...that's easy enough for most folks to install themselves. The ACA250. Company President Tom Malone....

"It's a wireless camera and monitor. The monitor is a small 2 and a half inch monitor that goes on your dashboard. And a small camera that hooks near your license plate frame. So installation is really very simple. It is wireless so it's going to transmit the signal from what is seen in the camera to that monitor in the front. And it's going to do that every time you shift into reverse. And of course, one of the key ones is it hits a retail price point of 129 dollars, which makes it affordable for man, many people. It's within the skill sets of many people to install it."

While the wireless signal may occasionally pick up some static....the image quality should be good enough to prevent backover accidents. Some high end vehicle navigation systems include that capability. What this system does...is make the technology affordable. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
