Notebook Computers With Battery Life to Spare

Boot Camp feature for Monday, August 18, 2008

Notebook computers with battery life to spare. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Dell is out with a revamped lineup of Latitude notebooks...aimed at business customers....and among the innovations...is the potential for battery life stretching for 19 hours...

"So the up to 19 hours, that configuration is essentially a nine cell battery with a slice battery that fits onto the bottom of the machine."

Margaret Franco is Dell's director of commercial notebooks. Even standard battery life is getting a boost. The new Latitude E6400 can run for 8 hours without the slice battery option. Other new models include the 2.2 pound E4200...

"That's the smallest laptop in the company's history. All of our laptops that we're launching actually feature a single frame magnesium alloy construction. We're also launching the very first business notebooks that come with color. Our E4000 series and E6000 series are available in regal red and regatta blue. The other thing that we looked at doing is really integrating into the notebooks very useful features that business people need. A good example is it's the first business laptop with intelligent backlit keyboards. It can detect the lighting that's around you."

Another useful feature is USB power share, which lets you charge mobile phones or other devices through the USB ports even while the computer is off. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
