Sharing That Digital Sound... Altec Lansing

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Sharing the sound from that iPhone, iPod or other digital player. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's hard to go just about anywhere these days it seems...without seeing people walking around wearing earphones. Everyone is plugged into their music or their phone it seems. But there are times when listening is a shared experience or when it's just more comfortable to use speakers. Altec Lansing has updated a wide range of speaker systems....for the home and for the road. Product category director Ed Benforado says, for instance, the little Orbit speaker has been redesigned...

"From a sound perspective we have improved over the previous one."

The idea behind this... it is a single speaker, battery powered unit that allows people to take any music source...

"Exactly, it's a totally battery powered solution so you can take it with you when you are out and about. It will give you 24 hours of play time on three triple A batteries."

The new Orbit has a carrying case that can clip onto a belt or backpack. The price...about forty dollars. Altec Lansing's inMotion Max is a new docking speaker solution that works with the iPhone 3G...

"What's nice about it is because it's been designed for iPhone, if you get a phone call, the music will ramp down, you just take the phone call, when it's done, the music will resume automatically."

It will go on sale in the next few weeks for about two hundred dollars. Bloomberg Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
