New Tech in Noise Canceling Headphones

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Getting away from it all...with noise canceling headphones. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Noise canceling headphones have gained in popularity over the years...with companies like Bose and Sony marketing some highly respected products. But a company called Able Planet with its roots in the hearing aid business has been getting some attention...for the technology it puts to use in its line of noise canceling headphones as well. VP Kiva Allgood...

"We developed a technology that helps people with high frequency loss actually hear the mid-range. So we started with hearing aids, telephones...and what we learned is that that technology, which is our patented technology called Linx Audio, actually can help anybody and everyone, whether they have hearing loss or not, enjoy music a little bit more. All of our products have the Linx Audio technology in it, it's an audio acoustic coil, and it improves the overall sound management and sound in the headphones themselves."

The company's Clear Harmony headphones...have been pricey....selling for more than 235 dollars online. But a new line...is considerably more affordable...

"We run all the way down to an entry level product where the MSRP is 99 and over the holiday season it'll be going for around 50 dollars. We really wanted everybody to be able to enjoy a pair of noise canceling headphones with the Linx Audio technology, regardless of what the price point was."

Able Planet says the technology allows users to lower the volume for safer...yet still enjoyable listening. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin...
