GPS Systems That Avoid Traffic

Boot Camp feature for Monday, April 27, 2009

GPS systems that know how to avoid traffic. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. There are plenty of GPS devices on the market today that include radios designed to receive traffic information. Often it is through a subscription with the data coming from the same kinds of traffic services used by radio and TV stations. But what if personal navigation devices could simply talk to each other....reporting where there are slowdowns. That's the concept ALK Technologies founder Alain Kornhauser has been advocating for years. ...

" If those entities had the communications devices on them so that a vehicle at any time could broadcast out then this a way for those probes to share their information."

The Princeton University professor's company has been selling navigation systems for Windows mobile and other handheld devices ...and soon, he hopes for the iPhone. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
