Amazon's Strategy for Ebooks Everywhere

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Amazon's strategy for E-books everywhere. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. The latest Kindle electronic book reader from Amazon, due out this summer will have a bigger screen...and a bigger price tag, 489 dollars. But the price may be subsidized by some newspapers...for readers who agree to long term subscriptions. And Amazon has also signed up at least half a dozen universities ...which will be trying out the Kindle DX....as a platform for student text books. About the opportunity... Amazon's VP for Kindle Ian Freed says...

"The text book industry is a multi billion dollar industry. So over the course of years that more and more students will be using devices like Kindle DX for text books."

Keep in mind that books purchased for the Kindle are also readable on Apple iPhones and the iPod Touch. And that concept may carry over to new devices from Apple and others. You can hear more of the interview at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
