George Carlin.... On the Web

Boot Camp feature for Friday, November 12, 1999

A comedy legend tells all online. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. George Carlin has spent four decades making people laugh and sometimes cringe. He's a keen observer of what makes us tick. Pushing the limits with those seven dirty words and pondering the little things about life and language in his best selling book Brain Droppings. Want to know what makes him tick? If you aren't offended by those dirty words, head for georgecarlin.com...where besides humor....you'll also find a timeline of Carlin's life. The good and the bad....

"I've always been emotionally honest and intellectually honest about myself and my shortcomings and where I think it's necessary to make compromises."

He has a bulletin board on the site for fans to post messages...

"It's one sided, I read all of that"

He doesn't censor the site...even when some fans accuse him of selling out by doing a commercial for MCI. George Carlin says he doesn't believe in much...doesn't hold out much hope for mankind...but this Internet thing...isn't bad...

"Will the business weenies wring everything they can out of it and change it for the worse? Yes, they'll do that. But I still think there'll be a broad component of communication and interaction among people through this medium that will change human consciousness."

Carlin says he'd like to stick around to see it, just for laughs.
