Taking Wikipedia in Your Pocket

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, October 29, 2009

Taking Wikipedia in your pocket. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. If you haven't used Wikipedia yet....where have you been. The free flowing online encyclopedia may not always be the most factually correct...since everyone can contribute to it.... But more often than not...you'll find the information you're looking for. Now a company called OpenMoko...based in Taiwan...is out with an updatable pocket sized gadget...called WikiReader. President Sean Moss-Pultz...

"It's the entire contents of the English Wikipedia, offline."

The key word there is offline. There are plenty of mobile devices like the iPhone that can connect to Wikipedia. This...says OpenMoko...is for when you don't have a phone with a browser or don't have a connection...

"I believe our main buyers are going to be 45 to 65 year olds."

The WikiReader...priced at 99 dollars... will be updatable via downloads or memory cards. You can find us with archives, interviews and more...at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
