When it Comes to Smartphones... Microsoft Says it Can Do Better

Boot Camp feature for Monday, January 18, 2010

When it comes to Smartphones, Microsoft says it can do better. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. With Google out with the Nexus One, more and more other Android phones, new Palm and Blackberry models on top of Apple's iPhone....Microsoft faces more challenging times in the smartphone business. Entertainment and Devices President Robbie Bach says Windows Mobile hasn't been good enough....

"Well I think there's two things we have to do. One, we have to come to market with a user concept and a user experience that is new, different and more effective than what you see now, which is basically a grid of icons and you press a button. We think we can do much better than that. We think we're early in the cycle of smartphones. And the next five years are going to be tremendous growth. And we think we're going to come with some very new and interesting concepts that will drive people to excitement."

Can Microsoft do cool on a mobile phone? Bach says stay tuned. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
