Online Movie Purchases to be Like DVDs

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, February 4, 2010

Purchasing movies...in the cloud. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Consumers are still purchasing lots of DVDs. If you buy a movie on DVD....you can play it anywhere...in the family room, on a laptop, in car entertainment systems...with no restrictions. The challenge facing online movie services...is to deliver the same type of consumer experience. That's what Roxio CinemaNow, part of Sonic Solutions is trying to do. Mark Ely is executive VP of strategy...

"For a library to make sense, a consumer needs to be able to get to it from whatever their connected device is. And that's really our vision. Whether you've got your mobile device, mobile phone, a laptop, a netbook, a television set. That on any one of those devices you can click on your library and see all of that content you've accumulated, you've purchased."

Later this year, CinemaNow's platform will add features like chapter menus and languages to streaming content. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
