A Hard Drive With a Movie Library Built In

Boot Camp feature for Tuesday, April 27, 2010

A hard drive...with a movie library built in. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. It's a partnership between Paramount Pictures and Seagate. The hard drive maker is preloading a line of five hundred gigabyte FreeAgent Go portable drives...with twenty feature films. The activation fees vary for the movies...but are typically between ten and fifteen dollars. But Seagate is offering a free code for Star Trek....upon registration. You could call it a drive designed for the Enterprise. So how do you watch the movies? Seagate product marketing manager Greg Falgiano...

"You can plug that portable drive into your laptop computer, your desktop computer and then also, Seagate makes a product called the Seagate Free Agent Theatre Plus HD Media Player. It's a media player that connects to your TV. You have an HDMI connection."

The movies can be transferred for watching on up to three different devices. It's an interesting concept for movie distribution. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
