Consumers Snapping Up Digital SLRs

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, June 10, 2010

Consumers continue to snap up digital SLR cameras. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. With friendlier prices and added features, digital cameras that have interchangeable lenses are attracting more and more buyers. There are new models arriving from some manufacturers that blur the line between simple point and shoot cameras and SLRs. The real attraction, according to Chuck Westfall, a technical advisor at Canon....is simple. Great pictures...

"Probably one of the main things that you're going to hear about is just plain and pure image quality, especially in terms of low noise. And that is due to the fact that digital SLRs use very, very large image sensors compared to the smaller image sensors that you'll typically find in a compact camera."

Canon recently announced that it has sold more than 20 million of its digital SLR EOS cameras since they hit the market ten years ago. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
