Do it Yourself: Eye Movement Computer Control

Boot Camp feature for Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Controlling a computer with your eye movements. A foundation creates a nearly free device. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. It is called the NotImpossibleFoundation. A non-profit that has built software and is providing the simple blueprints for a device that can open doors for those who are paralyzed. The foundation's Mick Ebeling...says it is called the Eyewriter...created initially for L.A. based artist Tony Quan, who suffers from Lou Gehrig's disease...

"You can take a pair of sunglasses that you buy from anywhere, cable, wire, zip ties... you probably have most of these things in your garage. The only thing you really need are LED lights and a PS3. Right now we're using a PS3 Web cam. And then you download the software. And then you control the cursor essentially by blinking and moving your eye."

You can find all the info at NotImpossibleFoundation.org. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
