eReader Focused on Basics: Kobo

Boot Camp feature for Thursday, July 1, 2010

An e-reader that's focused on the basics. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. It's one of a new generation of eReaders that take more of a no frills approach. The 150 dollar Kobo eReader doesn't include a built in mobile connection for downloading books from anywhere. It does connect with some smartphones, via Bluetooth, but books and such are downloaded via a USB cable connected to a PC or Mac. Kobo CEO Mike Serbinis...

"We're focused on keeping the price down to an affordable place where every customer, the average book buyer, who buys one to two books a month, can comfortably afford it and start reading any one of a hundred free books or our huge catalog of books where most best sellers are 9.99 or less."

Kobo, available at Borders Book Stores, also uses open standards...and books purchased for the eReader can also be viewed on computers and smartphones. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com.
