All in One PC Protection

Boot Camp feature for Monday, December 13, 1999

All in one packages to protect your PC. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. When it comes to everything from worrying about computer viruses to Y2K problems and hard drive health, there are two worthwhile software packages on the market that can give you some peace of mind. Norton Systemworks 2000 from Symantec offers a lot of protection. Network Associates has now put together a competing package called McAfee Office 2000 Pro. The bundle offers virus and Y2K protection along with some great utilies like Oil Change to keep your drivers and such up to date and two top security and privacy products...Guard Dog and PGP Security. Product manager Lisa Citron...

"McAfee Office 2000 Pro comes with what we call a configuration assistant and that configuration assistant helps pinpoint what utilities the user needs and by helping them pinpoint it, they don't install utilities they won't be using."

The anti-virus applications are often the biggest selling points for the packages. It seems like there more new viruses to worry about all the time...

"We still see 200 to 400 new viruses a month and that number has stayed pretty much the same. But what you are seeing is many more new variants."

You can find more information and even free anti-virus help on the web at mcafee.com.
