Sony Adding New Dimension to Cybershot Line

Boot Camp feature for Monday, August 2, 2010

Sony is adding a new dimension to its Cybershot line. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Sony is getting into 3D in a big way with TVs, Blu-ray players and its PlayStation 3. And now, its latest Cybershot cameras, the WX5 and TX9, can take 3D still images. Cybershot senior business manager Kate Dugan...says what's really unique is...the cameras are able to do it with a single lens...used with a sweeping motion...

"So as you sweep the image, the camera is capturing the images for your left eye and then right eye and then it's just sewing them together to create that 3D image. So we're able to accomplish a 3D photo, true 3D photo, with a very compact camera."

FujiFilm has had a more expensive two lens 3D camera on the market that unlike Sony's latest, can also shoot 3D video and display 3D on the camera's display. With Sony's, you'll need to plug the camera into a 3D capable TV. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.Com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
